Import products using a CSV template

Import products using a CSV template

In Shopit, you can choose from 3 ways to enter your products:
  1. Manual add (there are 2 examples you can edit)
  2. Import a csv using our template
  3. Import from another platform e.g. Shopify
It is important to remember that whilst Shopit has a default product record structure (Product Title, Description, Cost Price etc), you can also add custom fields to make it match your incoming data.

Before you begin, it is important to have an understanding of Product Types

Here we will show you how to add products using our CSV template.

1. Download the Products Template

  1. Go To Settings - Import/Export
  2. Choose either Download Template
    1. You will be given 6 example products, including singles and products with multiple variations.
    2. You will see the standard set of Shopit columns that works with our system and template designs.
  3. Or choose to Export Products
    1. You need to choose which sales channels' data you want to export
    2. As you add new products, the this file will always give you the latest version.
    3. When reimporting make sure you import back into the same sales channel you exported from

2. Compare Data and Create Custom Fields

All platforms have their own default database structure with a differing array of fields (or columns when viewing as a spreadsheet). Shopit allows you to customise our default structure so you can import as much information as required. You need to compare your existing data, with that of Shopit's default product structure

Example:
  1. Shopit gives you columns A B C D E F
  2. Your import has columns A C D F G H J K L M
If your product information requires additional columns (that may be shown on the front end sales channel):
  1. Go to Settings - Products - Add Custom Field
  2. Export Products to see the new columns
We recommend that you spend some time moving your existing data into the matching Shopit columns, and make sure the data type is correct (i.e. for 'Taxable', we accept a 'y' or 'n').

3. Import and Validate your Data

When you are happy with your data matching the (new) Shopit database structure
  1. Go to Settings - Import/Export
  2. Choose Import Products
  3. Upload your file
  4. On the next screen, choose which Sales Channel you want to import into
  5. You will be given the option to validate the incoming columns, against the existing Shopit columns for example:

  1. Once matched and imported you will then be given a Status Check which highlights data that can be successfully imported, and data that does not match the requirements and has errors.

  1. Once all data can be successfully imported, the import process can successfully begin.
  2. You will be given a notification once complete.
