What are EAN, MPN, ASIN, ISBN and UPC numbers?

Products use GTINs (Global Trade Item Number) in order to universally associate and differentiate item information. Marketplaces like Amazon use them to combine individual seller listings into one page offering the same item, for the benefit of customer comparison.

The International Article Number (also known as European Article Number or EAN) is a standard describing a barcode symbology and numbering system used in global trade to identify a specific retail product type, in a specific packaging configuration, from a specific manufacturer.

A Manufacturer Part Number is the original reference a manufacturer uses to identify a specific product - the format can be very varied using numbers and letters. Any business buying from the manufacturer will thus use this MPN. However, a business reselling a part will often use a different part number than the various manufacturers of that part do.
